How-To: Deconstructed Curls

Diotima’s Fall/Winter 25 collection was a must-see this season—the label’s first following designer Rachel Scott’s win of the CFDA’s Empowered Vision Award. Scott’s bold designs and sharp social commentary quickly lifted her to the top of fashion’s ranks, where she reigned this season.
The hair for the Fall/Winter 2025 collection was inspired by the American photographer Dawoud Bey, whose images from the 1980’s and 90’s show Black matriarchs styling their hair with rollers at the kitchen table, their sets falling throughout the day as they tend selflessly to others.

Oribe Session Stylist Joey George captured the essence of her imagery with a look that represents the chic woman-in-progress, who simply doesn’t have enough time for herself. The final look was a conceptual take that brought the looks in their entirety to life. As usual, he kindly shared the how-to with us backstage.

Deconstructed Curls
- Prep the hair with Hair Alchemy Fortifying Treatment Serum and Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray to nourish and shield.
- Apply Maximista Thickening Spray to add grip and blow-dry the hair straight, then brush out with the Italian Resin Flat Brush.
- Apply Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray to seal and smooth the hair cuticle, then flat-iron hair for a smooth finish.
- Section the hair into four quadrants, bringing the top sections of the hair forward to form bangs.
- Curl the ends of each section with a 1” curling iron and lacquer with Superfine Strong Hair Spray.
- Allow the curls to drop slightly, lending a nonchalantly deconstructed appearance.
