Oribe at NYFW Fall/Winter 2018

Kien Hoang and James Pecis led a talented team of Oribe educators behind the scenes at NYFW Fall/Winter 2018 where they created looks that ranged from everyday elegant to out of this world.

Cinq à Sept
Hair by Kien Hoang

The Fall/Winter 2018 collection by Cinq à Sept is a youthful play on textures and femininity. To complement the romantic aesthetic of the Parisian-inspired line, Kien Hoang, Oribe Director of Training & Content, embraced each model’s natural texture with effortless waves and demure detailing.

Get the Look:

  1. Prep hair with Foundation Mist to awaken natural texture.
  2. Apply Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream from mid-lengths to ends and Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse to the roots.
  3. Using a curling iron, bend 2-inch sections of hair in alternate directions to create a loose curl pattern and smooth the ends.
  4. Next, apply Swept Up Volume Powder Spray in a tapping motion to give the hair a matte finish.
  5. Then, gather 2-inch sections of hair on either side of the crown and loosely twist away from the face, pinning just above the ear.
  6. Finish with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray.

Adam Selman
Hair by James Pecis

With Willie Nelson on his mind, Oribe Global Ambassador James Pecis transformed each model into Adam Selman’s Fall/Winter 2018 rock n’ roll roadie dream. The look, complete with matted-down front swoop and waves leftover from once existing braids, paired well with the collection’s eccentric patterns and in-your-face colors and textures, which included everything from multi-hued fur to shiny leather.

Get the Look:

  1. Create a rough center part, leaving out a small section of hair in the front.
  2. Depending on hair type, apply Maximista Thickening Spray, Sculpting Cream, or Surfcomber Tousled Textured Mousse from roots to ends; avoid brushing product through.
  3. Flatten the hair and secure into two low braids. Diffuse until hair is almost completely dry.
  4. Wet the left, front section with Volumista Mist for Volume and form a U-shape with this section. Place pieces onto the forehead.
  5. Dry with a diffuser, take out the braids and run fingers through to finalize the look.

Chromat
Hair by Kien Hoang

An outdoor adventure of neon hues hit the runway during Chromat’s Fall/Winter 2018 show. The collection, which showcased sportswear and featured elements of utility and movement, had models strapped in by bungee cords. Oribe Director of Training and Content, Kien Hoang, created two active looks to go along with the colorful collection and tied his own playfully shaped bungees into the style.

*All models with natural texture and curl were prepped with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray.

Brandon Maxwell
Hair byJames Pecis

The Fall/Winter 2018 collection by Brandon Maxwell was a valentine to the women who wear the designer’s creations, all of whom exhibit intentionality and grace. To complement the clothing, Oribe Global Ambassador James Pecis sought to emulate the carefree look of a New York woman who effortlessly tied her hair in a ponytail before running out to her neighborhood haunt.

Get the Look:

  1. Prep hair with Maximista Thickening Spray.
  2. Using a 1.25-inch curling iron, curl hair in alternate directions, creating a loose wave.
  3. Comb hair into a low ponytail, securing at the nape of the neck.
  4. Apply Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream to edges and ends for a sleek finish.

The Blonds
Hair by Kien Hoang

Daphne Guinness, renowned art collector, designer and model, served as avant-garde muse for The Blonds’ latest collection. Each head-to-toe look more eccentric than the next, the Fall/Winter 2018 show juxtaposed the idea of evil versus aristocracy with a hint of rebellion. Oribe Director of Training and Content, Kien Hoang, accompanied the crystalized costumes with big, outer-worldly hair and described the pack of models as “a power alien army.”

Get the Look:

  1. For curly textures, flat iron hair with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray.
  2. Section in the back creating a square; pin all other sections aside until needed.
  3. Secure hair tightly into two high ponytails at each corner of the squared-off section. Spray Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray throughout.
  4. Cut hair donuts in half to resemble horns and secure at the base of the head. Expand ponytails using Swept Up Volume Powder Spray and fold over to cover the donuts. Secure at the middle of the crown.
  5. Pull the front section of hair back, creating a diamond-shaped part. Backcomb using Swept Up Volume Powder Spray making sure all volume is at the top of the head. Pull the sections towards the “horns” and secure into the donut.
  6. Create a double French twist by sewing the two back sections together with pins.
  7. Using Superfine Strong Hair Spray, pull side sections to the crown of the head and secure into one ponytail. Braid this ponytail.
  8. Place the braid up the divide between the two “horns” and secure.

Pyer Moss
Hair by Kien Hoang

The Pyer Moss Fall/Winter 2018 show celebrated black empowerment and individuality by blending tactile textures with pops of color for a forward-thinking, wearable collection. Embracing texture in his own way, Oribe Director of Training and Content, Kien Hoang, paid specific attention to each model, enhancing natural curl, style and shine.

Get the Look:

  1. Prep hair with Foundation Mist to awaken texture.
  2. Analyzing each type of curl and hand twist using either Curl Control Silkening Crème, Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream or Run-Through Detangling Primer.
  3. Let hair dry, allowing texture to expand outwards on its own.
  4. Tame any loose edges with Star Glow Styling Wax.
  5. Finish with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray.

John Elliott
Hair by Kien Hoang

John Elliott, cult menswear designer, debuted his first women’s collection by mixing the ideas of hard versus soft and masculine versus feminine. Oribe Director of Training and Content, Kien Hoang, styled both male and female models, opting to express the softer, more subtle side of the fusion. Lived-in texture and natural waves paired well with the street-style vibe.

Get the Look:

  1. Create a natural center part and apply Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray to deflate hair.
  2. Rake Crème for Style through the roots and blow dry to create pieciness.
  3. Lightly twist hair with a flat iron to develop a natural wave.
  4. Finish with Run-Through Detangling Primer and Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray to complete the style.
