• Sunday Hamptons Chic
This look is perfect for your weekend getaway. Whether you're lounging by the pool or heading to a lobster boil, this simple makeup routine will have you looking effortlessly beautiful. Brushed brows that are lightly filled add definition to the face, while a touch of color on the cheekbones creates a healthy glow. Finish with a nude lip that has a little shimmer for something extra summery.
• Midtown on Monday
Just because you’re in the office doesn’t mean you can’t bring a little summer sizzle to the boardroom. Brushed brows with minimal definition and a light blush on cheeks enhance your natural features, while a sheer coral lip balm— a hot color for summer— adds some brightness without feeling too heavy on lips (try Sonia Kashuk Moisture Luxe Lip Balm in CORAL). Unruly brows won’t stay put? One of Cruz’s favorite tips is to take a clean mascara wand and spray with Superfine Strong, then brush on brows to keep them in place all day.
• Thursday Night Fever
A night on the town calls for luminous skin and a striking eye. Daring dark brows with a heavily lined lid are both dramatic and smudge-proof, so you can work the dance floor all night and not worry about your makeup melting away. Complete the look with a fuchsia lip (try Shiseido’s Lip Lacquer in DISCO) for a touch of femininity and added pop. Stilettos required.
Summer Beauty Tips

When the air is thick with humidity and temperatures are climbing, the last thing you want to do is cover your face with a heavy layer of makeup. Unsure of what to do in the battle of beauty over the elements, we turned to makeup guru Edward Cruz to teach us how to beat the heat. Cruz showed us how to ride out the rest of the summer season with three exquisite makeup looks that hit on this summer’s best makeup trends. See below for Edward’s expert summer makeup tips and try to recreate the looks on your own.

How did you come up with these looks?

I tried to design some looks that would work great for the hot humid weather we’ve been having on the East Coast lately. I imagined the New York girl and how she would be spending her summer: weekend trips to the Hamptons, a busy workweek and nights out in the Meatpacking District with friends. She needs a look that will fit her agenda but also be comfortable in the sweltering weather. These looks could be easily adapted for any situation.

What makes these looks great for summer?

These looks are very versatile; the makeup can be applied lightly or built on for a more dramatic look. Plus, they have no eye shadow, which is a great way to lighten up any look for hot weather.

What in these looks hits on some of this summer’s makeup trends?

For summer, and leading into fall, the style is a lot more glamorous. A lot of attention should be drawn to the eyes. Lashes are an important beauty feature this summer, so each of the looks I created is finished with a really great mascara. Some of my current favorites are Lancôme Hypnôse Star Mascara, Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara and Make Up Forever Smoky Extravagant Mascara.

August can mean sweltering heat. What are some tips for applying makeup in extremely hot weather?

BB creams offer a lighter application than foundation, which is really beneficial when it’s hot outside. I also recommend lots of products with SPF for summer. You can do double duty by using Shiseido’s Perfect Hydrating BB Cream with SPF 35. During this time of year, we are constantly on the go and traveling. Women are less thrilled about spending time on complicated makeup looks that require numerous products, so it’s nice to utilize lightweight items that you can multitask with.
