What does great hair and beauty mean to you?
I love to come home, take the sunblock off my face, wash my hair and moisturize. It’s important to look after yourself and indulge in a beauty regime.

Describe your personal style.
I’m pretty laid back. I love color and finding cool pieces of jewelry or accessories from my travels.

What is the one item you couldn't live without (besides your surfboard)?
My passport.

• Who do you think has the best beach hair?
My Roxy teammate Kassia Meador (see photo above).

What is your definition of beach hair?
Beach hair is the salty crows nest that I come home with after a day at the beach. I love it. It has volume and the ends are white from the sun.

Top tip for transitioning from the beach to going out?
Conditioner and a brush-through!

Favorite break? My home break, Queensbury Point in South Africa

What does great hair and beauty mean to you?
It reflects that you take good care of yourself. I try to take really good care of my hair because it adds so much to my look.

You are in the water so much, how do you take care of your hair?
I try to keep my hair down while I’m surfing so I don’t get breakage around my hair tie. When I come in from surfing, I use leave-in conditioner. When I get out of the shower, I use a nice serum.
• Who do you think has the best beach hair? Blake Lively (above).

Top tip for transitioning from the beach to going out? A little mascara, some bangles and leave-in conditioner.

What is the one item you couldn't live without (besides your surfboard)? Sunscreen!

Your current state of mind. Free.
• Lee Ann Curren

What does beauty mean to you? Natural beauty: healthy body, hair and skin.

Describe your personal style. I wear beach clothes most of the time, but I like mixing up surf wear with more 'dressed up' clothes if I’m going out.

You are in the water so much, how do you take care of your hair? The sun can be super damaging, so I try to have conditioner in my hair before going into the ocean. Oils are not very good for hair, especially in the heat. Oil fries under the sun... and so will your hair.
• Who do you think has the best beach hair? Rob Machado (above) probably has the coolest hair.

What is your definition of beach hair? Natural, sun-dyed hair. It's cool how everyone’s hair reacts differently.

Top tip for transitioning from the beach to going out? Sea salt can give your hair a cool curl, so I like to just pin my hair on the side...it's an easy look.

Favorite break? Mentawai Islands, Indonesia. It always feels kind of like a dream going there—the waves are perfect, the water is warm and the place is beautiful. All you do is surf all day.
Making Waves

The Roxy Surf Team accounts for some of the finest surfing around, impressing the masses with their wave-riding skills. Outside the water, these ladies are just as talented. They can be found directing films, exhibiting art, sewing bikinis and making music...when not gracing the covers and pages of magazines. We managed to catch three of them—Lee Ann Curren, Rosy Hodge and Monyca Byrne-Wickey—between their worldwide travel adventures to see what they had to say about style and beauty and get tips on the perfect beach hair. — Ingrid de Vries
