Double Take

Hair by Garry Allyn

In the CW’s new hit show Ringer, Sarah Michelle Gellar plays twin sisters Siobhan and Bridget, and the show’s lead hairstylist, Garry Allyn, has imbued each of them with a signature style to match their very different personalities. “Upper East Side trophy wife Siobhan is a very rigid person who wants to seem in control at all times, so her hair is always smooth and polished and is usually pulled back,” Allyn says. “Recovering addict Bridget is much more carefree, so she usually has loose, beachy waves.” As part of the show’s plot, Bridget goes on the run from the law and assumes Siobhan’s identity (and her penthouse). “For these scenes, it’s pretty much Bridget’s take on Siobhan,” Allyn explains. “She takes her very polished style and makes it a little messier, a little more relaxed.” Regardless of the sister or the look, one thing remains consistent: Dry Texturizing Spray. “I use Dry on every look I create for the show, Allyn reveals. “It doesn’t build up and it doesn’t weigh hair down, making it really easy for me to switch Sarah’s hair back and forth between the characters.”
Here, Allyn previews a look from an upcoming episode, which finds Bridget posing as Siobhan at a formal affair.

1. Wash hair with Shampoo and Conditioner for Brilliance and Shine (Sarah Michelle Gellar uses these—and the Masque for Beautiful Color—at home, as well).
2. Prep hair with Foundation Mist all over and spray Maximista Thickening Spray at the crown.
3. Use a round brush to blow-dry the hair.
4. Create curls with a clipless curling wand, alternating directions.
5. Add clip-in bangs to switch up the look, if desired.
6. Tease the crown for additional height.
7. Twist a few pieces in the front and pin them at the back of the head.
8. Use Superfine to set and Dry to create even more volume and texture.
