Patricia Morales

Freelance hairstylist Patricia Morales has created some of the most talked-about celebrity styles in recent history…but they weren’t your typical beautiful blowouts or classic chignons. While she has been known to create stunning styles for the red carpet and runway, Morales is also a sculptor who uses hair as her medium to create.

What are some of the amazing hair "sculptures" you've made?

I created Lady Gaga’s now-iconic hair bow for her award-winning “Poker Face” video back in 2008. It became a phenomenon. I also made the green hair headphones Fergie wore in her “Boom Boom Pow” video in 2009. In April 2011, I created an amazing hair display in the Stephan Webster display window in Beverly Hills.

What inspires you when creating these works of art?

I’m inspired by emotions, music, fashion designers, travel and, most of all, different cultures. When starting a new piece, I turn on some loud music, pull out my mood board and get to work. All my work has a meaning and a feeling behind it. Each finished product is like a story waiting to be told.

Do you have a background in art or sculpture?

Yes! My father was a sculptor. While I was growing up, he would let me play and get creative. We would mold things and create lots of amazing pieces. My mother loves fashion, and I remember her constantly sewing and making beautiful things. I was always so impressed by the creativity my parents had and still have. I believe that is where my creative outlet came from.

How do Oribe products help you with your creations?

Oribe products help me with my creations providing structural support in my works of art. Oribe products are made for allowing creative things to happen. I just love the results I get when I work with them.

Other than creating these hairpieces, what are some of your other passions?

I also make hair accessories. I am so happy when I sit down to make them or design them. It feels so good. I have a big collection that will soon be launched.

How did you first get into the hair industry?

I started in the hair industry 15 years ago in New York City. I was in love with fashion and being free to create and express myself through doing hair in publications and fashion shows.

You worked with renowned stylist Patricia Field at the famous Patricia Fields Wig Salon at Hotel Venus Soho. What was that like?

Working at Patricia Fields was so out of this world. I consider myself so fortunate to have had that experience. The people who surrounded me were very creative and expressive in their own way. Every day was different and full of adventures. I enjoyed meeting rockstars and popstars on a daily basis and helping them pick out wigs and makeup.

Who are some of your other celebrity clients?

I’ve had the pleasure of working on a lot of celebrities for appearances and music videos. My clients include Katy Perry, Shakira, Britney Spears, Adam Lampert, Ozzy Osbourne, Robert Pattinson, Josh Brolin and Matt Damon, to name just a few.
