Pamela Love

New York Fashion Week may be over, but that didn't stop us from going to a few of our favorite designers for more inspiration. Since launching her namesake brand in her Brooklyn apartment in 2007, jewelry designer Pamela Love has won a coveted CFDA Swarovski Award for Accessory Design and collaborated with esteemed fashion brands like Zac Posen and Opening Ceremony. Love’s immediately recognizable pieces have become a staple for style savants and an editor favorite. We asked Love to share how she got her start in design, what inspires her and which Oribe products she can't live without.

How did you get your start as jewelry designer?

I studied experimental film and art direction at NYU. After I graduated, I worked as an art director and painting assistant. My background in cinema and the arts inspired me to create jewelry.

How would you describe the Pamela Love girl (or guy)?

Adventurous, romantic, independent and spirited

You mentioned jewelry design wasn't your original path—you received your BFA in Experimental Film and Art Direction from NYU Tisch, as well as working for renowned painter Francesco Clemente. Which three films are a must-see?

If I had to choose, I’d say Holy Mountain, El Topo and Brasil.

Do you have a go-to hairstyle? What are your favorite Oribe products?

I like to keep my hair natural and beachy. My favorite Oribe products are the entire Dry family (Thick Dry Finishing Spray, Dry Texturizing Spray and Soft Dry Conditioner Spray), Intense Conditioner for Moisture and Control, Rough Luxury Molding Wax, Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray and the Signature Conditioner.

If you were to create a piece of jewelry for a salon, what would you create and why?

A hairpiece—something tough, yet feminine.

If you owned a salon, what would it be called?

Love Shack

Your jewelry has a cult following among the fashion elite. What tips do you have for aspiring designers?

Always trust your instincts—don’t just follow the trends.

What inspired your collection for Spring/Summer 2015?

Jewels that take you to the farthest corners of the universe
