Mathieu Mirano

Hair by Rita Marmor for Oribe Hair Care

At the Mathieu Mirano Spring/Summer 2014 presentation, models lined the walls of the Studio at Lincoln Center as if they were human statues, towering above the spectators who marveled at their ethereal and fierce beauty. The statuesque models stood elegantly in their eveningwear designs by the talented young designer, complimented by an equally strong, sleek high ponytail created by lead hairstylist Rita Marmor. Inspired by the confident clean lines of Mirano’s collection, Rita chose a simple style for the hair, accenting each ponytail with a strip of white patent leather at the base to tie in the collection’s color palette. “The look is very strong, confident and clean,” Rita said. “I didn’t want to do anything with the hair to take away from the clothes. I love the idea of a high ponytail; it creates a beautiful long line when the girls walk.”

Get the look:
1. Dampen hair with Maximista Thickening Spray from roots to ends and blow dry up and back with a Mason Pearson brush as straight as you can.
2. Take a Mason Pearson brush in one hand and Superfine Hair Spray in the other and begin misting the head with the spray as you brush the hair back into a ponytail. Press the hair tightly to the head, creating the smallest head shape possible. Tie hair into a ponytail with a piece of elastic just above the ears.
3. Spray sections of the ponytail with more Superfine and go over with a flat iron to get hair as straight as possible. Follow with another misting of Superfine to create shine and seal the quality of the ponytail.
4. Use Gel Sérum to smooth down any flyaways and add shine to the front and sides of the head. Finish with Superfine.
5. Take a ¾-inch thick piece of white patent leather (or any piece of fabric) and wrap around the base of the ponytail and secure with a piece of double sided tape.
