• Le Club 55
Saint-Tropez, France

Quite possibly the most legendary beach club in the world, Le Club 55 is located on Pampelonne Beach in the Côte d'Azur. Le Club 55 was born in 1955 when current owner Patrice de Colmont’s mother, Madame de Colmont, offered the family’s simple wooden cabin as a catering spot for Brigitte Bardot and the cast of Roger Vadim’s …And God Created Woman during filming. It opened as a restaurant thereafter, and actors, artists and celebrities have been rolling in to drink and dine ever since.

 • Surf Lodge
Montauk, NY

Located at the tip of Long Island in The Hamptons, this chilled-out waterside retreat blends boho chic and laid-back surf seamlessly. The outdoor decks, drinks and live music lure such large crowds that the bar landed close to 700 zoning violations in 2011. (This year, the goal is to be more family-friendly.)

How would you describe your personal style?
Flip-flops or Vans, jeans and a t-shirt. But I'm told I clean up nice.

What is your philosophy for great hair?
The easier the better. Messy works great. Don't be scared to cut it yourself.

Describe your daily hair routine.
Shampoo every few days, towel dry and mess it up or throw on a hat.

What is your definition of beach hair?
A salty mess of perfection.

Tell us your top style tips.
Be yourself. Fit is everything.

The best thing about Surf Lodge.
The live music…and the sunsets over Fort Pond can't be beat!

What is your signature beach cocktail?
I make the best Corona in the east. Fresh lime is the trick.

Top pick for summer song.
Gotye seems to be going strong with “Somebody that I Used to Know.”

Shaken or stirred?
Shaken.

Best bar story?
A drunk English customer was trying so desperately to get a drink that he didn't realize his tie caught on fire at the bar. When I put him out with the soda gun, he knew he had my attention and simply returned to ordering his drink. I was impressed with his commitment!
 • Sunset Lounge at the Viceroy
Anguilla

The dramatic bay views and elegant decor by renowned interior designer Kelly Wearstler define this cliff-top open-air bar in the Caribbean. The sunset snacks and innovative cocktails are the perfect way end to the day…or start the night. When the lights go down, you might think you were in the hottest club in Manhattan.

How would you describe your personal style?
Girly and fun—a blend of New York and LA living on a Caribbean island. I love combining fun, colorful dresses with great accessories, be it vintage costume jewelry, a great hat from Eugenia Kim or funky shoes. I’m just as at home wearing a glam party dress as I am Current Elliott cutoffs (of which I have about five pairs and can’t stop buying), a vintage top and a bright lip. My current obsession is my Kelly Wearstler pink leather jacket. It’s not something I can wear in Anguilla, but it’s the perfect piece for NY and LA.

What is your philosophy for great hair?
It starts with a great cut that can wash and go for those days when you have to run out of the house or air dry out of the ocean. It can’t be too fussy or overly styled and should always be feminine. I love a woman who can pull off a pixie cut, but I’m not one of those women…I love hair that’s long enough for someone can run his fingers through.

What is your definition of beach hair?
Natural and wavy with some hints of sun-kissed highlights. I hate seeing girls waste time and energy blow drying and flat-ironing when they are at the resort. Just rinse your hair with salt water, throw in a little bit of styling cream and go! You’re on vacation and you’ll get great natural waves.

The best thing about Sunset Lounge.
The sunset, of course! There’s nowhere else you would want to be 10 minutes before the sun goes down with an Uva Bella or one of our signature mojitos in your hand waiting to see the Green Flash, the moment when the sun hits the horizon line.

What is your signature beach cocktail?
I love a bottle of bubbles on the beach.

Top pick for summer song.
Rihanna could be the unofficial national anthem of Anguilla (every song) and, right now, “We Found Love.” My song of this summer might be Flo Rida and Sia’s “Wild Ones” because it gets me dancing and “Call Me Maybe” because, well, why not? And anything by The Beach Boys…always.

Shaken or stirred?
Frothy. It’s all about foam these days.

Best bar story?
Our New Years Eve celebrations are known for being pretty over the top. This past New Years was definitely one of the most amazing because we had Shaquille O’Neal as our emcee and, at the time, little known YouTube sensation Karmin performing. As they performed, 500 guests danced and sang along to their covers, and about five songs in, the sky opened up and it began to downpour. Everyone ran for cover, but Karmin kept performing. I was running barefoot and grabbing towels trying to dry the walkways, concerned that guests’ New Years would be ruined. But something was infectious in that Anguilla air – I looked up to see that dozens of people had taken their shoes off and grabbed umbrellas and were back on the dance floor in no time. It was so much fun to see everyone dancing in the rain.
 • Tanjong Beach Club
Singapore

Described as a “sun-kissed playground,” this all-day hideout on Sentosa Island is just a stone’s throw from the city. The design took inspiration from retro beach clubs and Singapore’s colonial past whilst respecting the lush tropical environment. The open-air deck spreads out toward the sea and offers magnificent views of the sunset.
 • Rai Aziz
Tanjong Beach Club

How would you describe your personal style?
I’d describe it as modern yet classic. I like sharp, clean lines, but working at the beach, it has to be practical as well.

What is your philosophy for great hair?
Good hair without a smile is as good as bad hair.

Describe your daily hair routine.
It’s important to look and smell good, especially in Singapore’s weather at the beach. So I wash and dry my hair every day and usually style my hair using wax before I head out the door.

What is your definition of beach hair?
Beach hair is relaxed and lightly tousled, just on that edge of being messy yet cool.

Tell us your top style tip.
Do not overdress at the beach…less is more.

The best thing about Tanjong Beach Club.
Three Ps: Place, Parties and People. Tanjong Beach Club is a perfect beach escape for any city dweller. We’ve got great food and drink, and awesome parties like our weekly Smack My Beach Up on Sundays and Full Steam Ahead, our full moon party held three times a year and drawing crowds of more than 3,000 people who party until dawn.

What is your signature beach cocktail?
The famous Tanjong Fly, which is served in an Absolut bottle. Tanjong Fly consists of vodka, lychee liqueur, lime juice, pineapple juice and a touch of Grenadine syrup for a lasting touch of redness.

Top pick for summer song.
Any song from David Guetta! That man is simply amazing and sure to get anyone grooving on the sand.

Shaken or stirred?
Shaken. In Singapore’s hot weather, shaken keeps drinks cold but doesn’t dilute the overall experience.

Best bar story?
A colleague of mine was busy behind the bar but noticed an old lady at the main road who was struggling to carry two large plastic bags. He immediately went out not to just give her a hand, but gave her $20 so she could take a cab back home. We often get lost in the hustle and bustle of work and that gesture of kindness was really heartwarming for me.
 • Dune Beach Bar
Niyama, Maldives

This chic beach hub sits on a Maldivian beach known for its endless turquoise water and white powdery sand. There’s also a floating restaurant and the world’s first underwater nightclub to explore.

How would you describe your personal style?
It’s casual stylish. I usually wear a dress shirt, Bermudas and sandals. I used to keep up with the latest in men’s fashion; however, since I live in the Maldives now, if it fits and I’m comfortable, I’m wearing it!

What is your philosophy for great hair?
Great hair for me should be well trimmed, have a healthy shine and be clean and soft yet strong.

Describe your daily hair routine.
Every morning I wash my hair with a mild shampoo followed by conditioner. Once a week I massage my scalp with traditional natural hair oil from my home country, Sri Lanka. It makes my hair smooth and helps it glisten in the Maldivian sun.

What is your definition of beach hair?
Surfer hair. It’s a shaggy cut with some layers, not too long and not too short. Pretty cool.

Tell us your top style tip.
Add some gel to any short hair and spike it up a bit to add instant style.

The best thing about Dune.
Dune is a beach bar at Niyama by Per AQUUM. It’s located right by the beach and is the perfect place to laze in the deck chairs, work on your tan and cool it down with a cocktail that I can whip up in a flash. Every Tuesday and Friday afternoon, guests can enjoy live seafood cooking at Dune.

What is your signature beach cocktail?
Dune Pina Colada. It’s a pina colada with a splash of Midori (melon liqueur), which gives a very nice greenish color.

Top pick for summer song.
“The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars

Shaken or stirred?
Shaken

Best bar story?
Three couples were having drinks at Dune last month. Two were married while the other was not. They were sipping on the Dune Pina Colada and as they enjoyed their cocktail they started chatting to each other. They became so close that the two married couples asked the unmarried man to propose to his girlfriend…and he did! The man knelt down on one knee and asked his girlfriend to marry him as she sat on the bar stool. When she said yes, he kissed her and then ran to our boutique to buy a very nice engagement ring! The day after they held a little engagement ceremony by the beach in front of Dune…I love my job.
What is your definition of beach hair?
The natural style created by the wind and humidity.

Sunglasses. A nice pair of sunglasses can make you look good, in style and fashionable.

The best thing about Catch Beach Club.
In my opinion, Catch Beach Club has the most delicious seafood buffet and professional bartenders. We have great music and we are situated in the best location; Surin Beach is one of the most beautiful in Phuket.

What is your signature beach cocktail?
We have more than 10 signature cocktails, but the most requested are Catch's Mai Tai (rum, amaretto, sweet and sour, orange juice, pineapple juice, passionfruit), Surin Propaganda (raspberry vodka, creme de classic, lychee, strawberry), Catch Beach (rum, blue curacao, pineapple) and Sly Thai (vodka, limoncello, fresh lime, kaffir lime)
Best bar story?
Many customers and tourists came to Catch the first Sunday after the tsunami a few months ago. That night was very crowded, and the atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter. Giant vodka bottles were brought in to celebrate. People were texting and sending messages and videos to their friends and family around the world to say that they were safe at Phuket and were very happy at Catch Beach Club. It was my favorite night since I started working here.
 • Anahita Beach Bar
Mauritius
Describe your daily hair routine.
My daily hair routine is surprisingly easy. I've never really had the patience to spend too much time on it, and I tend to want to keep it mostly natural. I've inherited the thick locks from my father, so I am forever grateful.

What is your definition of beach hair?
Air-dry your hair in the sun.

Tell us your top style tip.

The best thing about Anahita Beach Bar.
Our selection of pure, authentic Mauritian cocktails using an extensive range of exclusive and rare spirits.

What is your signature beach cocktail?
Bird of Paradise: gin, Malibu, Blue Curacao, lychee juice, coconut cream, mint syrup

Top pick for summer song.
Sega--it is both song and dance. Accompanied by distinct instruments such as the ravane (a thin, wide drum covered with a goat’s skin), the maravane (a pebble-filled box that makes a rattling sound when shaken) and the triangle, the singer sings about the tribulations of love or the humorous side of life. The instruments provide a rhythm only, no melody. The dance is a series of shuffling steps with no set pattern, with hips swinging and arms outstretched. The dancers shuffle around each other before facing each other and sitting down on the floor, bending their torsos forward and backward, much like a courtship dance. Commercial performances in hotels and nightclubs accentuate this suggestiveness and try to lend an air of eroticism to the dance.
